Tysons West Open House (Wal-mart), Saturday September 17

posted Sep 9, 2011, 5:43 AM by Westwood Village

Hello Westwood Village,

As many of you know, there are many changes planned for the Tysons Corner area over the next few years and even next few decades.  One of the most important and impacting changes to our community is the mixed-use development project that is arriving in our own backyard (the former Moore Cadillac / Hummer dealership site).

For most of us, we know this as the Wal-mart development project.  However, there is more to this development project than Wal-mart and much of which that could bring positive value to our community.  It is important that we all become involved to learn about the project and help influence the changes planned for the future phases.  This will help to ensure that positive value is actually realized for our community.

With that said, please read the invitation below from JBGR (the development company) for an open house meeting concerning this site.  We urge all owners and residents to attend in order to show our strength as a community.

"Dear Westwood Village Neighbor:

On behalf of JBG Rosenfeld Retail, I am writing to let you know about our proposal to create Tysons West– an attractive, welcoming, pedestrian-friendly area for residents, visitors, shoppers and businesses.

I also wanted to invite you to learn more about the Tysons West proposal by attending our Westwood Village Open House on Saturday, September 17 from 9 AM – noon at the Sheraton Premiere at Tysons Corner.  We scheduled this gathering specifically for Westwood Village residents.

Representatives from JBG will be on hand to chat with you one-on-one and provide in-depth information about our proposal as well as to answer your questions and hear what you have to say.  This will be an informal gathering, so feel free to drop by anytime between 9 and noon.

We envision Tysons West as a ground-breaking new community that combines the best attributes of mixed use, transit-oriented development consistent with Fairfax County’s goals for this area.  The project will feature a combination of walkable retail, dining, residential and office uses, all within close proximity to the new Tysons-Spring Hill Road Metro station.

JBG has a strong reputation for developing high-quality mixed use communities.  To learn more about our guiding principles and to see examples of our transit-oriented developments, visit
Over the past months, we have met with many Westwood Village residents to talk about our proposal.  The comments and feedback we have received have been most helpful.  We look forward to continuing our dialogue with the community as we work together to make Tysons West a reality.

I hope to see you at our Open House on September 17.

Jay Klug
Best regards,
Westwood Village Board of Directors
