Dear Residents,
Recently, a survey was conducted to determine resident sentiment regarding the installation of one or more EV chargers in Westwood Village.
Survey results indicated that 57% of respondents were in favor of EV charger installation, with another 10% neutral, and 28% opposed. Opposition to the installation of chargers seemed to mainly revolve around the proposed location, which was initially proposed to be in the visitor spaces outside of the clubhouse. Even though overall sentiment was positive, the Board listened to feedback, and went back to the drawing table by revisiting county policies regarding UOA EV charging locations, as well as community electrical information to see if a new location could be identified.
In the end, the Board settled on a new location, still in line with county policies, and serviceable by a community owned electrical meter. This location would occupy two unreserved parking spaces at the very back of the community, on Northern Neck Drive.
Based on this information, the Board put together an application to the County to be accepted into their Charge Up Fairfax program. The Board of Directors is happy to announce that the Westwood Village Unit Owners’ Association was accepted into the program. As part of the program, the community will receive technical and financial assistance from the county to install a single dual port EV charging station open to all residents and their guests.
Administration of the chargers is still in the initial phases, but the idea is that residents will pay for the electricity that they consume while charging, and that access to the chargers will be restricted by FOB.
Engineers from Fairfax County will meet members of the Board in the community at the proposed charging site closest to 1567 Northern Neck Drive this Friday, August 16th, at 9AM to confirm the feasibility of the plan, and to answer any questions from Board members and residents.
All residents are welcome to attend and ask any questions that they might have.
Sincerely,
Westwood Village Board of Directors
